RESEARCH BRIEF · E-commerce
E-commerce prospect research for agencies
Turn a client offer into a defensible prospecting brief.
The demo is fictional and read-only. Signing up does not itself grant paid access.
A specific starting hypothesis
For a retention or conversion client, select merchants with a relevant product model rather than promising that a platform label predicts need. Repeat-purchase consumables and one-off industrial equipment require different briefs. Review the client's delivery languages and exclusions alongside store policies. Present an evaluation plan with observable fit signals; do not invent abandoned-cart rates or performance improvements to make the pitch attractive.
Distinguish merchants, brands, marketplaces and service providers
Check the shop, product catalogue and legal notice to connect a storefront with the correct business. A marketplace seller and the marketplace operator are different prospects. Record product categories and shipping territories from published pages. Technology and traffic estimates need their own evidence; a familiar checkout design or a large catalogue does not establish either platform or sales volume.
Who to research
Research e-commerce management, operations, merchandising or partnerships. Use the role that owns the proposed change, and distinguish an external agency contact from a person employed by the merchant.
Exclude or hold for review
Exclude closed storefronts, unrelated marketplace operators and shops outside the service territory. Keep consumer support inboxes separate from named professional contacts.
A review workflow for agencies
Ask the client for a concrete service, delivery territory and examples of unsuitable accounts. Translate those constraints into research questions rather than a broad industry list. Keep the client's own customer and suppression records separate from prospect research. Have a person review the proposed segment and evidence before any outreach decision.
The useful output
A client-reviewable targeting brief with service fit, exclusions and representative evidence requirements. A sample workflow is not a promise of booked meetings.
Evidence to keep with the brief
- Official company identity and domain, actual products or services, location and a source date.
- A named professional, current title and evidence linking that person to the correct company.
- Any business email's source, verification method, status and checked-at time. A generic inbox is not a named person's email; catch-all and unknown results remain unresolved.
- Size and traffic only when sourced. Leave unavailable values unknown; do not use website appearance or search position as a traffic estimate.
These are evaluation criteria, not claims that every field is present in LeadHunt. The fictional demo cannot prove a segment's size, mailbox quality or commercial results.

Questions before you start
How should agencies qualify e-commerce accounts?
Distinguish merchants, brands, marketplaces and service providers. A client-reviewable targeting brief with service fit, exclusions and representative evidence requirements. A sample workflow is not a promise of booked meetings.
Does this page contain available e-commerce contacts?
No. This is a research brief, not a live list or a coverage guarantee. Inspect actual company, person and verification evidence in your account before deciding whether a record is usable.
Does a public business address mean I can start outreach?
Public research is not permission to contact someone. Review the source, professional association, current verification result and your outreach requirements. The demo never sends messages.
