RESEARCH BRIEF · E-commerce

E-commerce prospect research for founders

Test an ideal customer profile before committing a sales budget.

The demo is fictional and read-only. Signing up does not itself grant paid access.

A specific starting hypothesis

Test a merchant problem such as returns processing within one product category. Read the returns policy and shipping pages before suggesting a workflow change. A generous return policy does not reveal actual return rates or operating costs. Use it to formulate an interview question, then validate the economic buyer and implementation constraints before broadening the target segment to every online retailer.

Distinguish merchants, brands, marketplaces and service providers

Check the shop, product catalogue and legal notice to connect a storefront with the correct business. A marketplace seller and the marketplace operator are different prospects. Record product categories and shipping territories from published pages. Technology and traffic estimates need their own evidence; a familiar checkout design or a large catalogue does not establish either platform or sales volume.

Who to research

Research e-commerce management, operations, merchandising or partnerships. Use the role that owns the proposed change, and distinguish an external agency contact from a person employed by the merchant.

Exclude or hold for review

Exclude closed storefronts, unrelated marketplace operators and shops outside the service territory. Keep consumer support inboxes separate from named professional contacts.

A review workflow for founders

Start with one problem your product solves and a small, manually reviewed set of companies. Write down the evidence that would disprove your hypothesis as well as the signs of a fit. Separate a promising company from a reachable buyer: a relevant website alone does not tell you who owns the budget.

The useful output

A short account brief explaining the problem, evidence, likely buying function and unresolved questions. Compare interview feedback before expanding the segment.

Evidence to keep with the brief

  • Official company identity and domain, actual products or services, location and a source date.
  • A named professional, current title and evidence linking that person to the correct company.
  • Any business email's source, verification method, status and checked-at time. A generic inbox is not a named person's email; catch-all and unknown results remain unresolved.
  • Size and traffic only when sourced. Leave unavailable values unknown; do not use website appearance or search position as a traffic estimate.

These are evaluation criteria, not claims that every field is present in LeadHunt. The fictional demo cannot prove a segment's size, mailbox quality or commercial results.

Questions before you start

How should founders qualify e-commerce accounts?

Distinguish merchants, brands, marketplaces and service providers. A short account brief explaining the problem, evidence, likely buying function and unresolved questions. Compare interview feedback before expanding the segment.

Does this page contain available e-commerce contacts?

No. This is a research brief, not a live list or a coverage guarantee. Inspect actual company, person and verification evidence in your account before deciding whether a record is usable.

Does a public business address mean I can start outreach?

Public research is not permission to contact someone. Review the source, professional association, current verification result and your outreach requirements. The demo never sends messages.
